Impro Lab

The ImproLab is a monthly opportunity to explore the different aspects of improvisation as performing art, or 'instant composition'. Artists in other disciplines are warmly invited to take part in the research. Each ImproLab has a different theme and consists of a short physical warm-up, a warm-up to the theme and a series of instant compositions.

Some pictures of the Impro Lab's:

Themes:

  • Movement – How does it develop? Invant developmental movement education.
  • The backside of our body – What are the possible movements of our back?  We will explore all possible movements and flexibility of the spine. This will open a door to efficient movements and powerful expressions. It is easy to be aware of what’s happening in front of us, but by practicing focusing on the back, we can also develop an awareness of what’s happening behind us. This way you can experience the whole space around you. Both the front and back, the whole room while creating instant compositions.
  • The child in us! How does playfullness form our improvisation? What is playfullness? How is it to be playfull? How do we get in contact through playfullness? How does playfullness influence our choice of movements and creates strong instant compositions? In this ImproLab we will find out the answers together and discover the child in us. It’s gonna be an exciting journey back to our roots of being a child, discover the world with the eyes of a child. Feel free to explore,  enjoy the moment itself, being  spontanious, totally involved in what we are doing, being curious, get in contact without fear and being prejudiced, doing things for the sheer delight of doing them"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." – George Bernard Shaw
  •  And other themes.
